Faculty Obligations
Being a Programming Peer Leader entails responsibility to organize, communicate, and engage with your Peer Leader Program Coordinator and fellow peer leader, as one would lead a 50-minute weekly workshop with another peer leader. The instructor with whom one is paired with will determine how the workshop(s) will be arranged. The exact workshop structure will be provided by your faculty member.
Expectations
- Make contact with their instructor every week to review workshop materials and current student learning needs, then prepare for the workshop session.
- Participate in learning/mentoring workshops provided by the Peer Leader Program Coordinator.
- Creating a comfortable learning environment in the workshop session that encourages students to engage with programming.
- Facilitate workshop sessions leading students to engage in the analysis and resolution of problems relevant to what was covered in their regular classes. Encourage students to collaborate, share ideas and experiences while reinforcing standard programming concepts. The role of the peer leader is to motivate, help and coordinate the group, providing clarification, corrections and/or suggestions only when necessary.
