Workshop Requirements
One of the main responsibilities of a peer leader is hosting a weekly one-hour workshop for a Programming I or Programming II course. These workshops are designed to be extensions of the
material being taught in the class. The material presented is up to the discretion of the professor. Generally, there will be two peer leaders assigned to each workshop.
The purpose of the workshops is not necessarily to find the solution to the presented problem. Rather, the intention is to discuss the process of how to come to that solution. Workshops are
meant to be a time for students to challenge themselves and ask questions in an environment without professors. Maintaining a welcoming environment for all levels of students during the
workshops is important. Recognize some students will need more help than others.
Peer leaders are not expected to know absolutely everything about programming. However, peer leaders are expected to be well versed on the workshop material. In addition,
when asked a question that is outside the range of the peer leader’s knowledge, they are expected to be able to use their resources to find that information.
